Vacationing at Paradisus Palma Real Resort. What’s to do outside of resort?

We are going for 2 weeks in December with our 12 yr old daughter. We wanted to maybe go whale watching and to the oldest church. Should we rent car or taxi? What about any shopping? Any reviews on the resort? Stuff for daughter to do?
